Frequently Asked Questions
Below are a number of questions that we receive on a regular basis regarding Northern Lite truck campers. If you have any questions not answered below, please feel free to contact us directly here.
No. Northern Lite only builds hard side campers. The reason for this is that slides on campers result in leaks, loss of heat, and add weight. Every Northern Lite camper is built for 4-season use and slides would compromise this rating.
All Northern Lite truck campers have an R value of R7. As well, we double insulate beneath the cabover for extra comfort. Our 4-season truck campers are tested down to -20c with water on board… but without water you can use them in much colder temperatures.
When buying your new Northern Lite truck camper it’s critical that you have the right size of truck. Northern Lite 8-11 and 9-6 truck campers need a minimum of a 3/4 Ton pickup such as a Ford F-250, Dodge Ram 2500, or a Chevy Silverado 2500 and GMC Sierra 2500.
If you purchase a Northern Lite 10-2 you will need to have a one-ton pickup such as a Ford F-350, Dodge Ram 3500, Chevy Silverado 3500, and GMC Sierra 3500.
Regardless of the truck you use, always check the payload capacity.

If you plan to tow a trailer, you will need a hitch extension. For 10-2 models you will typically need a 42″ extension for a trailer. 9-6 and 8-11 models will need a 38″ extension for a trailer. The above measurements do not include the ball hitch. We recommend Torklift extensions. You will need to measure your trailer’s specific required length.
